Hiring Events Continue with Our ChanceTN’s Spring Forward Series

Caregivers had the opportunity to take meaningful steps toward their career goals at our Spring Forward with OurChance event.

Attendees participated in real interviews with employers, including Metro Schools, giving them valuable, hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Caregivers also received real-time résumé support, helping them strengthen and refine their materials on the spot, and even had the opportunity to receive professional headshots.

“One of my favorite parts was getting my headshot taken by Donzaleigh,” says Yolonda McClain, Caregiver and TAEM Peer Ambassador. “I also found it really helpful speaking with the Vanderbilt employer representative. He gave me advice on improving my resume and even shared a few reference numbers for open positions at Vanderbilt, which I really appreciated.

In addition to career preparation, the event created space for connection and community with Caregivers enjoying breakfast together.

“As a caregiver and a peer ambassador with Our ChanceTN, I found the workforce development breakfast to be held in a comfortable and engaging setting.,” says Krista Riddle, TAEM Peer Ambassador. “The meal was very enjoyable, with a great variety and more than enough food for everyone.”

It was a morning focused on growth, confidence, and preparing for what comes next.

Our ChanceTN is a part of a study funded by the Tennessee Department of Human Services which is being conducted to determine how these pilot programs help people improve their economic well-being. During the study, all new eligible applicants will be randomly selected into one of two/three groups that receive a different mix of program services.

The Tennessee Opportunity Pilot Initiative (TOPI) is brought forth by the Tennessee Department of Human Services and TANF Opportunity Act. This initiative will help individuals, families, and the state of Tennessee by creating a new vision for the Tennessee social safety net and is dedicated to helping low-income families grow beyond their vulnerabilities. TOPI empowers all Tennesseans by partnering with local organizations to reach deep into their communities and work shoulder to shoulder with individuals and families, growing their capacity to take on life’s challenges and reduce their dependence on the social safety net.
